Lucky Charms Rice Krispie Treats Recipe

Let's be real — the marshmallows are the best part when it comes to Lucky Charms. We all save them for the end or go digging for them in the cereal. (Tough luck to the person who finds the box without all the marshmallows!) Since they are the best part, it only makes sense to highlight them and show them off with these Lucky Charms Rice Krispies treats.

These Lucky Charms Rice Krispie treats take the classic snack to the next level. The Lucky Charms cereal takes the place of the puffed rice in this treat. Otherwise, the recipe is basically the same as your traditional rice krispie treat.

The best part about this recipe — besides the marshmallow overload — is how easy these bars are to make. All you have to do is melt the marshmallows and butter and pour it over the cereal. It is that simple! The hardest part about this recipe will be waiting for the treats to set. After one bite into the gooey treats, you'll see that it was easily worth the wait.

Why I Love This Lucky Charms Rice Krispie Treat Recipe

    • No bake - No need to turn on the oven to make these marshmallow treats!
    • Quick and simple - Need a last-minute dessert for St. Patrick's Day? These whip up in a flash.
    • Nostalgic favorite - A gooey Rice Krispie treat always takes you back in the best way possible.

Ingredients Needed To Make Lucky Charms Rice Krispie Treats

See below for all the details on what you'll need to make the full recipe.

    • Lucky Charms Cereal - A regular-sized box will be plenty.
    • Butter - The melted butter combines with the marshmallows.
    • Marshmallows - A 10-ounce large bag will work.
    • Salt - A small pinch balances out the flavors.

How To Make Lucky Charms Rice Krispie Treats

    1. Prepare.

Generously grease an 8x8 pan with butter, parchment, or both. Set to the side. Place the cereal in a large bowl and set it to the side.

    2. Melt the butter and marshmallows.

In a medium-sized saucepan, melt the butter on medium-low heat. When the butter is fully melted, add the marshmallows, continuously stirring the mixture to combine. Add in the salt.

    3. Mix the marshmallows and cereal.

When the marshmallow mix is fully melted, remove it from the heat and pour it on top of the cereal mixture. Use a rubber spatula to cover the cereal in the marshmallow mixture. When the mixture is fully combined, pour the cereal into the prepared pan and press it down so it is flat.

    4. Set and cool.

Let the Rice Krispie treats set and cool in the pan for 30 minutes. You can speed up the process by placing the treats in the refrigerator. When ready to cut, use a sharp knife and cut into squares.

    Make Ahead and Storage

The Lucky Charms Rice Krispie treats are a great dessert to make ahead of time. They will be best if they are made 1-2 days in advance. The cereal will start to go stale if they are made sooner.

Any extra Rice Krispie treats can be stored in an airtight container for 3-5 days. The cereal might start to lose the crisp factor, but it will still be fine to eat. They can also be frozen and kept in the freezer in an airtight container or plastic bag for 2-3 months.

    Tips and Variations

    • More traditional - Looking for more traditional Rice Krispies? Use half Lucky Charms cereal and half puffed rice to switch it up.
    • Work quickly - The marshmallows set fast, so make sure everything is ready to go when you start to make the dessert.
    • More chocolate - More chocolate is never a bad idea. Add chocolate chips to the cereal mixture to add them to the final product.

    FAQs

How can I make the Lucky Charms Rice Kripsie Treat more festive for St. Patrick's Day?

Add green sprinkles to the cereal before adding the melted marshmallow to make the treats even more festive for the holiday.

Why are my Rice Krispie Treats soggy?

If your Rice Krispie treats are soggy, chances are you added too many marshmallows or too much butter. Double-check the recipe and use the proportions in order to keep the treats crisp.

Can I use regular marshmallows or mini marshmallows in the recipe?

This recipe uses a 10 oz bag of regular-sized marshmallows. Mini marshmallows melt at a different rate, so you might have to work at a difference pace. As long as the measurements are the same, mini marshmallows can be substituted.
