Ingreidents Needed To Make Valentine's Day Chocolate Bark
See below for all the details on what you'll need to make the full recipe.
- Chocolate - Both chocolate chips and a chocolate bar will work
- Candy melts - Use white chocolate if you can't get candy melts.
- Oreos - Any cookie will work if you don't want to use Oreos.
- Coconut oil - A small amount is added to give the chocolate a nice crisp and shine.
- Candy hearts - To make the bark extra festive.
How To Make Valentine's Day Chocolate Bark
- Prepare. Prepare a sheet pan with parchment paper and set to the side.
- Crush the cookies. Use a food processor or a plastic bag with a rolling pin to crush the cookies. Set to the side.
- Melt the chocolate. Melt the chocolate using a double boiler or in the microwave in increments. Stir until smooth, and add in the coconut oil.
- Make the bark. Pour one layer of chocolate, top with the Oreos, and place in the refrigerator or freezer to set. Then add the top layer, topping with candy hearts and sprinkles. Use the candy melts to cover the Oreo cookie layer.
- Set up. Let the bark set up and become firm. Leave the bark in the fridge for an hour to make sure it all comes together.
Make Ahead and Storage
The chocolate bark is a great treat to make ahead. The bark can be made up to five days in advance. Keep the bark in a cool place or in the refrigerator until ready to eat. Since it is mostly chocolate, it will melt very easily.
The bark also freezes very well. It can be made ahead of time and frozen or kept in the freezer if there are any extras. Keep the bark in an airtight container in the freezer for 2-3 months.
Tips and Variations
- Food Coloring - If using white chocolate, be careful about what food coloring you use. Most white chocolate and food coloring do not mix, causing a mealy chocolate.
- Switch it up - Switch up the colors depending on the holiday. Use green and white candy melts for St. Patrick's Day, go orange and green for Halloween, and red, white, and blue for the 4th of July.
- Coconut oil - A little goes a long way. Don't worry about the oil impacting the taste of the bark. The oil is more for setting the chocolate and giving it a good shine.
